VALLEJO, Calif. — The Asian Pacific American Public Affairs (APAPA)Solano Chapter celebrated its 10th anniversary on August 8 with an evening ceremony recognizing emerging youth leaders and highlighting a decade of community impact.

Held at the USA World Classics Event Center, the event drew community leaders, elected officials, and youth representatives. U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson praised APAPA for fostering civic engagement and building bridges across ethnic groups. “APAPA not only helps API youth integrate into mainstream society but also promotes understanding among diverse communities,” he said.

Congressman Mike Thompson praised APAPA for its contributions to community building.

Since its founding in 2015, the Solano Chapter has provided more than 200 internships in state, local, and federal government offices, with over 30% of participants pursuing careers in public service. The chapter has also organized more than 500 community service events, serving nearly 10,000 residents.

This year’s Youth Leadership Awards recognized outstanding API students for their achievements in internships, policy advocacy, and community service. Honorees included an Indian American student who advanced a multicultural education initiative and a Filipino American student who leveraged bilingual skills to expand health outreach.

“APAPA gave me more than an internship—it gave me a platform to discover myself and serve the community,” one award recipient said.

Chapter President Gregoria Torres reflected on APAPA’s grassroots growth and announced new priorities: expanding internship opportunities, launching a mentorship program, and strengthening digital outreach. APAPA’s social media presence has surged, with its Instagram following up 200% and TikTok videos reaching more than 500,000 views over the past year.

“As the 2028 Census approaches, we need to ensure the API community is accurately counted and fully represented,” Torres said.

APAPA representatives emphasized that the organization’s sustainability relies on strong community support and a multi-tier sponsorship network.

From 2015 to 2025, the Solano Chapter has grown into one of Solano County’s most influential multicultural organizations. Over the next decade, leaders say, it will continue cultivating young API leaders to strengthen civic participation and promote diversity.
