(ECNS) -- Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) saw 1,972 newly registered foreign trade enterprises during the first week of island-wide special customs operations - from December 18 to 24, marking a year-on-year increase of 2.3 times, according to Haikou Customs on Thursday.

Imports of zero-tariff goods exceeded 400 million yuan, and duty-free goods sold to customers in the Chinese mainland through the "second line," under the policy allowing products with an added value of 30 percent or more during processing, surpassed 20 million yuan, customs data showed.

On Tuesday, at a coconut oil production factory in Hainan, workers loaded finished products onto a truck. Hours later, the fully loaded truck passed the "second-line" centralized inspection at Haikou New Port and Haikou South Port before departing for Guangzhou.

This batch of coconut oil, weighing 198 kilograms and made from local coconuts, marks the first time that locally produced goods in Hainan have been processed under the value-added processing operations since the island-wide special customs operations took effect. Zhou Fuqiong, a company representative, noted that all procedures, including filing and customs declaration, were completed smoothly.

According to policies, zero-tariff goods processed in Hainan may be sold to the mainland if the local processing adds least 30% in value.

Customs authorities stated that the launch of island-wide special customs operations will help promote the development of Hainan's local industries.

So far this year, Hainan has added more than 30,000 newly registered customs declaration entities, a year-on-year increase of over 40%.

On December 18, China launched island-wide special customs operations in the Hainan FTP, the world's largest FTP by area, allowing freer entry of overseas goods, expanding zero-tariff coverage, and introducing more business-friendly measures.
